A multidimensional visual texture is the appropriate paradigm for physically correct material appearance representation. The talk will overview of material appearance representatons with their inherited advantages and limitations. In the second part of the talk we will present summary of our recent advances in material appearance measurement, compression, modelling, and editing. The key aspects of the topic, i.e., several novel multi-dimensional data models with their corresponding benefits and drawbacks, which will be discussed.
