Education and affiliation
Lubomír Soukup received the M.Sc. degree in geodesy, cartography, and remote sensing from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague in 1986. Afterwards he was employed in the Research Institute of Geodesy, Topography and Cartography. In 1988 he continued in research work at the Czech technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering. He started his postgraduate study there in 1991. In 1994 he affiliated the Institute of Information Theory and Automation and finished his doctoral thesis in 1998 there. The thesis was focused on application of Bayesian approach to geodetic data processing.
Research
Research activity of Lubomír Soukup is devoted to spatial accuracy of objects in images, maps, and reality. He applies and developes various methods for processing spatial data that allow determining not only size and position of an object, but their precision too. To accomplish this requirement, he utilizes Bayesian approach, spatial statistics or fuzzy set theory. This intention corresponds to research projects he has participated on.
Recent research projects
- Design of the knowledge system for decision support based on geodata (2006 - 2011)
- Cartographic sources as a cultural heritage (2011 - 2015)
- Investigation of terrestrial InSAR efficiency for deformation analysis of hazardous objects and localities (PInSAR) (2012 - 2016)
- The advanced technology of rapid determination of bridges deformation by radar interferometry and its use in diagnostics (DefMoRI) (2019 - 2022)
Pedagogical activity
Pedagogical activity of Lubomír Soukup began during his employment at the Czech technical University in 1988 - 1994. He was teaching students of geodesy and cartography in subjects Introduction to computer science (programming, numerical methods) and Introduction to remote sensing that time.
He came back to the Czech technical University in 2000 as an external part-time teacher of undergraduate courses Adjustment of geodetic networks and Accuracy of geometric transforms.
In the academic year 2017/2018 he had been giving undergraduate course Theory of errors and adjustment calculus at the Department of geomatics of the Faculty of civil engineering at the Czech Technical University. He was responsible for lectures and seminars. This course had to serve as an introduction to mathematical statistics and estimation theory for bachelor students of geodesy, cartography and geoinformatics.
